What to expect with your pet's consultation
When you and your pet arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted warmly by our front desk team and they will assist you with any paper work before you meet with the doctor. Once your papework is complete you and your pet will be usher into an exam room and one of our veterinary technician will take vitals, take a brief history and gather data for the doctor. The doctor will meet with you and your pet, the doctor will ask you questions regarding your pet’s history, perform a physical exam, and then a plan of action will be created. This will include diagnostic tests if needed, a financial estimate and consent that allows us to pursue appropriate procedures.
This is a great time for you to ask the doctor questions. Our doctors and veterinary team wants to make sure you’re completely comfortable and understand the information we’re providing.
Our veterinary technician will return at the end of your appointment to address any questions or concerns, and will provide you with helpful pet care information. Our front desk team will then complete your visit and schedule any needed follow up visits or procedures.

Our goal is to see all our clients and patients on time, and although we have contingencies for emergencies, there will be times where the unexpected will create delays. We apologize in advance.
Please allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment. We do accept walk-in emergency cases, though these cases are subject to an emergency exam charge. Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time.
We realize that finding time in your busy schedule for pet care can be difficult. Therefore, we offer the convenience of pet drop-offs as early as 8:00 am the morning of services, or even the night before. To drop your pet off for an examination later in the day bring your pet in between 8:00 to 8:45 am, unless otherwise scheduled with a receptionist, and leave your pet with us for a couple of hours. We ask you to drop off your pet in the morning so our doctors can examine your pet between appointments. Once the doctor has examined your pet, the doctor will call to discuss the estimated diagnostic and treatment plan your pet needs. You can pick your pet up later in the day, unless your pet needs hospitalization. Contact us to find out how you can take advantage of this service at 858-484-3490.
For the safety of all clients and animals in our care, we require that all pets are leashed or in carriers. Snakes also need to be bagged or in a box. Even though we make every effort to make our clients and patients feel comfortable during their visit, they may be a little uneasy about new people, new surroundings and other pets.
Hours and Emergencies
The Pet Hospital of Penasquitos in San Diego accepts emergency cases during office hours, these visits are subject to an emergency exam fee.
